Would you like a Heinichen with that…?
We are exploring the music of Johann David Heinichen and Jan Dismas Zelenka on our next concert on Feb. 22 at Boston College. Both were German Baroque composers, both studied in the Italian Baroque style, and they both worked for the Dresden Court. But why was Zelenka passed-over for the top job in Dresden? Were Heinichen’s trio sonatas better than Zelenka’s? We are not sure, but you can hear a trio sonata from each composer on Feb 22 at Boston College and tell us what you think.
We will play:
Trio Sonata in c minor by Johann David Heinichen
a keyboard sonata by Johan Adolf Hasse
and
Trio Sonata No. 2 in g minor by Jan Dismas Zelenka
on the next concert by The Boston Zelenka Project
